Football

Granada CF

It's been an eventful few seasons following Granada CF. When I first moved to the province, they were languishing in the Primera Andaluz, the fourth tier of Spanish football. They managed to gain promotion back to where they've been for many years, the Segunda B4.

In the summer of 2009 though, things looked grim, with the club suffering huge debts and facing imminent closure. The arrival of new club president Quique Pina, steered the club in a direction that the long suffering fans could only have dreamed of.

An affiliate deal with Italian side Udinese was brokered, which saw the Italians investing and supporting the club with loans of players. Granada CF went on to win the Segunda B4, then the overall Segunda title, gaining promotion to the second tier of Spanish football, Liga Adelante.

Although there were many doubters, Granada repeated their success of the previous season, by reaching the promotion play-offs. They beat Celta Vigo in the semi-finals and Elche in the final. They'd done it! For the first time in 35 years, they had made it back to Spain's highest level, the Primera, or Liga BBVA as it's now known.

This season will see the club facing the might of teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla and many others.

As well as having followed the club since my arrival in Granada province, I also research and compile the data for Granada CF, for the popular PC football management game, Football Manager by SI Games

I'm in regular contact with players and staff at the club, all of whom have been really helpful with my data research.

Inland Computer Services offer installation and connection of satellite internet systems, amongst their services. If like ourselves, you find yourself in a very rural location, where there's no telephone line, WiMax isn't available and mobile devices don't work so well, then these are the people to call.

From initial installation, through to subsequent after sales help and advice, Inland Computer Services have been superb. I can highly recommend them.

Mel and Phil at Telly Addicts have been superb satellite TV installers, who we've used ourselves and always been happy to recommend to our clients.

There's an awful lot of dodgy Sky installers throughout Spain and this area has seen its fair share of cowboys. Telly Addicts have been around for a long time now and are still here, doing what they do best.

Their help and support is excellent and nothing is ever a problem. Whenever anyone asks if I know any satellite TV installers, they're my first and only recommendation.

INSTALACIONES FECCJUSA are our first choice for electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and renewable energy installations.

Fully registered, qualified, experienced and able to arrange anything from the most basic domestic installations, to commercial and industrial solutions, we're always confident and happy to involve them in projects we undertake.

Instalaciones Feccjusa are also an authorised collaborating company for green and renewable energy installations, where grants are available from Junta de Andalucía and European Union regional funding. Something that's always worth investigating when considering anything from solar energy to power a whole building, or even just to heat water or provide central heating.

For more information about renewable and sustainable energy, sponsored by Junta de Andalucía directives, visit the official website:

As a keen follower of Spanish football and particularly my local club Granada CF, I also write articles for elcentrocampista.com - a popular English language website, covering La Liga and Spanish football in general.

We inevitably cover the giants of the Spanish game, like Real Madrid and Barcelona, we're keen to also cover the smaller teams, whilst also looking back at the history of football in Spain and a few unique stories, such as when all three of the Maradona brothers played for Granada!
